Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition

GamePC have thrown up their review of ATi's Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition! Here's a snip.

ATI is looking to correct the wrongs of last year with their new X850 XT Platinum Edition graphics card, which is currently ATI's flagship product for the gaming market. The Radeon X850 XT PE is based on ATI's new R480 graphics core, the same core which is also featured in ATI's standard Radeon X850 XT product. The "Platinum Edition" card simply kicks up the clock speeds of the core and memory a notch higher, allowing slightly better performance in the most intensive graphics scenarios.

Since we already know that the standard Radeon X850 XT is already an extremely fast card, we have no doubt that the X850 XT Platinum Edition will score exceedingly well in our benchmarks. The larger questions lingering in our heads are if ATI will be able to supply enough of these chips to satisfy demand, in addition to if ATI will be able to sell these cards closer to their suggested pricing level. Since availability of their previous generation Platinum Edition cards were so low, pricing for the cards which did make it to market were unbelievably high, which certainly stunted any kind of large-scale sales of such products. We really, really don?t want to see that same scenario happen again with the X850 XT Platinum series.
