On this website you can download the official flashtool for the radeon 8500 cards from ATI. The flashtool needs to be started in plain DOS to work.
In the package is a special loader to use with the original ATI flasher, flashrom.exe. You MUST use START.EXE, because this loader changes some settings and patches the flashprogram, so you can safely make a backup of your own BIOS, verifiing other BIOS versions and of course flash your RADEON 8500/8500LE to another version
In the package are different BIOS versions enclosed. OEM, RETAIL and PAL and NTSC versions! They should fit for mostly all of you. Still it is possible to use your own BIOS for future purposes with the loader.... ATI 8500 Turbo?!....
