XtremeSystems today has published a modding guide by their forum technician PiLsY, on modifying the Prometeia's Micro-Freezer retention on specifically P4 based systems, thereby increasing retention pressure which in turn provides better CPU contact and lower temps for the P4.
First off I should say that the premier piece of equipment for the home overclocker these days is the Prometeia unit, reviewed here at Xtreme by MrIcee and JCViggen. I'd suggest you read their review's first to fully understand how the mounting system for the Prometeia works. Besides they're a damn good read ;). The Prometeia has been proven by many people to slay all competition. The next step up from this particular piece of Xtreme cooling would undoubtedly have to be custom made and far from 24/7 reliable. My Prometeia is on for roughly 18 hours a day whether attended or not and has yet to skip a beat. With this in mind I thought I'd try and break it, I mean improve it. Honestly I do....
And that really is that. All that remains is to clamp it all together until you hear metal creak and your arms ache, then fire her up. Check your temps and aim for the stars. Remember, check your CPU temps and not evaporator temps. If you've done this right your evaporator temps will actually be HIGHER. "WHAT!?!" I hear you cry. Well think about it, if you get better contact it'll be better at pulling the heat from your CPU. And if its better at that, the head unit will therefore be warmer under load... It's only by a degree or two anyway, so your bragging rights will still be intact. You should however be rewarded by a substantially reduced CPU temperature under load. I managed to reduce my CPU temps by some 4c under load and get another 63mhz stable out of my CPU. Not bad for an afternoons work."
