New AMD - Intel Processors This Week

Supplies of AMD's latest processors seem to be hitting the streets on time to meet the company's latest timetable, according to dealers. OEMs and brokers claim that supplies of the AMD 2600+ and 2700+ should be trickling into shops on or slightly before November 15, the same day as "enthusiast" OEMs like Voodoo PC expect to get their hands on the AMD 2800+ Athlon XP. AMD's shipments are expected to trail the announcement of Intel's 3.06-GHz Pentium 4, which could be announced as early as Thursday. That chip will be Intel's first desktop processor to include hyperthreading, a feature which allows a compatible OSes and applications to break the work done in parallel execution chains, or threads. Intel will likely begin marketing this feature as "two processors in one," according to Tim Wright, director of desktop marketing at AMD, in a recent interview. Source: ExtremeTech
