Multi-Booting

Tamer Metwalli over at Flicker Down has posted his new Properly Installing More Than One Operating System Together and Multi-booting them Guide!

So you want to multi boot eh? Ok...you don't want any OS to take charge or change the way your PC boots? Ok...I've come up with a ?different? way to multi-boot up to 5 OSes... well actually I could make up to 31-32 OSes...theoretically.

The whole ?secret? is in giving every OS it's own ?Primary? partition. A partition is a section of the hard drive you could make into writable area. Think of the hard disk as one big piece of white paper and formatting is like line numbering and actually drawing the lines to write on. Since the drive is so large (usually) the drive needs to be like indexed with something like a table of contents written in the beginning of the drive. This part of the drive holds info on the number of partitions and some other related stuff. But there are limits to the number of partitions on the drive. The MBR (Master Boot Record, part of the ?indexing system?) could only hold 4 entries for primary partitions.
