MR Tech Guide - Free Virus/Spyware Tools

This is a very touchy topic, but here are some great tools you can use to begin the steps to recovering from virus, trojans. I've ranted in the past about the deficiencies of some anti-virus software packages and have found myself having to use several of the tools below to get me and a ton of other people out of a bottom-less pit of 100% cpu utilization and a million popups. While newer versions of McAfee and Norton offer some of these features, I've found them to not be as extensive as the tools below. Additionally most of the features below are only available in the newer versions of McAfee and Norton.

MR Tech Approved Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird Extensions

The following extensions for Mozilla, Firefox and Thunderbird are MR Tech Approved and tested. Please note Firefox & Thunderbird are currently going through an Extension/Theme installation process change, so you may have some issues, just make sure to match the version you have installed with the installer version available from each extension.

Great Collection of Mozilla/Firebird Hacks

I had originally written about download throughput hacks and a FavIcon hack, and after looking around I found a few more that are of interest and I figured I'd share them with everyone. BTW, these hacks will also work with Netscape 7.x

I'm not taking credit for all of these hacks, just some, but I figured putting them all together would be a great resource, enjoy.

What's new with this release:
- main Firefox window will snap right back after being minimized under Windows (see comments way down below)
- manually setting the cache memory to a nice high number (do this if you have it to spare)
- faster mouse scrolling, changing default of 1 to 6 lines, tweak as you like
- disabling the shell: protocol just in case... (recent Mozilla/Windows security patch)

Previous Update:
- Smooth Scrolling was a bit chunky on all systems fast or slow, use your own preference, but I have mine off now
- Added security note to plugin path hack
- Added general comments to more hacks
