According to a post on Twitter, the Windows 8 consumer preview had one million downloads in the first 24 hours of release.

Majorgeeks downloads total over 2,000 downloads of the Consumer Preview ISO images and the Consumer Preview installer. Our readers do not seem too thrilled with the preview with an average rating of about 3 of 5. Our readers tend to be very accurate on their ratings so we consider this number to be a fair ranking of the quality and opinion of Windows 8 so far. I ran the previous release and decided to pass this time around waiting to see how it develops down the road plus I am very happy with Windows 7 like most 7 users.

There are some risks trying out the Consumer Preview and we recommend that you install it on a spare partition and not use it for daily use. According to Microsoft:

“Note before you download: Windows 8 Consumer Preview is prerelease software that may be substantially modified before it’s commercially released. Microsoft makes no warranties, express or implied, with respect to the information provided here. Some product features and functionality may require additional hardware or software. If you decide to go back to your previous operating system, you'll need to reinstall it from the recovery or installation media that came with your PC.”
