Q. In your honest opinion how much of an edge do you think NVIDIA will be able to pull off with their Geforce FX product range before ATI release their next card?
A. Tricky one. To be honest I know almost nothing about the 0.13 version of R300 so I don't know how the performance will come out. But I'll guess as follows ? assume they can lift clock speed to 500MHz (same as NVIDIA) then they should increase real-world performance by a similar percentage couple that with new memory interface and I would say that they will be close to, if not faster than, GeForceFX.
The question as to how big a lead NVIDIA will get with GeForceFX really comes down to pricing. Clearly GeForceFX is a very expensive card. NVIDIA in the US say with will be $499 that?s means it will have a street price in the UK of £449-£499 ? that?s a lot of money! This high end market is finite so the real battle is fought with the mainstream versions of these chips and details about those are thin on the ground.
