Intel Oops they did it again

In spite of a string of spectacularly unsuccessful attempts in 2000 and 2002 Intel is once again sabre-rattling over their company name and trademark.

Not content with facing multiple lawsuits at home in the USA (where they seem to have breached almost every possible employment regulation & where they currently stand accused of assorted business malpractices - see information and links on page 2) Intel is turning it's financial muscle on small UK operations in a thinly veiled attempt to bully them into handing over their legally owned collateral, websites and trademarks.

Through their lawyers Howrey, Simon, Arnold & White, the Intel Corporation - who claim bizarrely to have an ethical trading policy! - has written threatening to sue to a number of the 26 UK businesses whose title contains the word Intel, completely irrespective of these organisations actual area of operation/ trade.

One example of this is 7intel, a small Agency in the north of England run by an ex-military private investigator Gary Stapleton. Gary, who has seen his fair share of action, initially thought the letter was a joke. Once he stopped laughing (and had called his list of probable pranksters) he realised the letter was in fact meant seriously and contacted Howrey as he felt they must have mistaken 7intel for some other company. On behalf of Intel, who do not hold any private investigators licence in their home state (California), Mr Nicholas Bolter at Howrey assured Gary both verbally and in writing that Intel intend to prosecute for 'passing-off'!
