If there isn't such a problem, then motherboards based on the i865PE chipset will be in demand by the users until the Tejas-core processors are released.
Remember that first processors on the Prescott core will appear by the end of this year, just in the very heat of the Christmas sales. The market will see two models with 3.2 GHz and 3.4GHz clock speeds priced at $417 and $638, respectively. Early in 2004, there will be released lower-end models with 2.8 and 3.0 GHz clock speeds priced at $218 and $278. The 2.8 GHz processor looks very attractive in terms of overclocking - there is a high probability of attaining clock speeds as high as 3.8-4.0 GHz (the technology limit of the Prescott core).
So, currently there is no precise information on the compatibility of modern motherboards to Prescott processors. In part, this was affected by that first samples of these processors turned out to be not the best in terms of power consumption and heat emission. As a result, Intel had to revise the specifications and instead of the Prescott FMB 1.0 there emerged the Prescott FMB 1.5 specification. This specification provides for the increase in current strength from 70A to 80A. Of course, this will result in increased heat emission up to the 100W mark and higher (the heat emission of the 4.0GHz is expected to be at ~130W mark).
