Troubled Korean DRAM maker Hynix Semiconductor Inc. said Monday (August 11, 2003) that it has developed a 1-Gbit synchronous DRAM that complies with the DDR2 (double data rate 2) standard.

Hynix plans to sample the chip early in the fourth quarter of 2003 and to begin volume production early in 2004 to coincide with the release of Intel personal computer peripheral logic chipsets that support DDR2. The memory is manufactured using a 0.11-micron manufacturing process technology and Hynix's 1-Gbit and 512-Mbit DDR2 DRAMs are offered in 68-Ball, and 60/84-Ball Fine-Pitch Ball Grid Array packages.
