Download Windows XP SP2 Build 2082 full - 360MB @ OnlyNewz

It's large in size because the network install file contains the updates for Media Center Edition, Media Center Edition 2004 and updates Tablet PC to version 2004. It will only install these vpdates on PCs running XPMCE or XPTPC. Express is going to be the way to go for the average end user.

Is this the Official Windows XP SP 2 install? Because the news is not clear about it.

...and ask you if this is worth downloading and trying if the most recent XP update I've done is SP1?

I suggest using SP1, this is a bit better than 2055 build but still unstable.

Thanks Jollemi, I'll hold off and wait then. I still suck too much at XP to be playing around with unstable betas. (I feel like SUCH a newb! )

np :). Currently a couple of programs don't work. They worked with the 2055 beta. M$ still has a lot to do.

This service pack, like most of the others is stable. However, the fact that they may introduce a bunch of bugs with the introduction of a new service pack, especially with one of the calibre of SP2. SP2 is of course *NOT* your ordinary bug-fix release. It's going to take quite a bit more time of testing I believe to get it rolling.

There are a few bugs that were introduced with 2055 that are fixed with 2082, and undoubtedly probably some neww onese in 2082 as well as some older ones that might not show until other problems are fixed.

I personally, for the most part, do not recommend that 'regular' users download the service pack beta, since it's not just a case of installing it over previous builds. It is RECOMMENDED to ensure that your system is as stable as possible, to reformat and reinstall at each refresh.

And such, I've earmarked some hours this weekend to do just that :D
