Download Link Yes, at long last, we're going to drop the "alpha" designation and call this version 2.0. The truth of the matter is that the last few versions have not truly been alpha software, but we kept using the alpha version designation for reasons that we can't remember any more. So now it's gone. New:
Integrated the DivX 5.0.3 decoder into the application. HTTP download support. This version reintroduces the "Open URL..." functionality that existed in the old Playa application. When you choose "Open URL..." from the menu and enter a URL that points to a valid DivX file on a remote HTTP server, the DivX Player will download the remote file to your local computer and begin playing it back. Progressive downloading. While downloading remote video files, the Player will begin playing back the video before it is completely downloaded. It does this once it has downloaded enough of the file such that playback can begin and won't be interrupted. This considerably shortens the amount of time between initiating the download and beginning playback. Support for external video and audio codecs with AVI files. When playing back AVI files, version 2.0 can playback any video or audio format supported by the DirectShow multimedia architecture. This means the DivX Player can now playback DivX video files that contain audio encoded in a format other than MP3 audio. It also means that the DivX Player can playback other types of video stored in AVI files, such as Intel Indeo video. Practically speaking, this feature means you can associate the DivX Player with the AVI file extension for all of your AVI file playback. Mastermind integration. This version understands the new DXU file format, and will launch automatically when DXU files are loaded. This allows it to integrate with the new Mastermind media service to support the playback of video files through that service. Installer now associates *.dxu file extensions with the DivX Player. Improved:
Accelerated video playback. On systems with video cards containing large amounts of memory (32 MB and up), there will be a marked improvement in CPU usage on large video files. Files that previously would require 90%+ CPU usage to play (e.g., 1080p resolution videos) now will take as little as 15-20% CPU usage on systems with higher-end video cards. CPU usage on systems with lower-end video cards remains the same as previous versions. Fixed:
Fix for VBR audio. AVI files with VBR audio created with the Fraunhoffer IIS encoder would not seek correctly because the encoder does not include a Xing header in the stream. This is fixed, all files with VBR MP3 should now play and seek correctly in the DivX Player. Interleaving fix: Some AVI files that were not interleaved caused the player to leak memory quite fast and hang the system (eating memory) when seeking too far in the file. Multiple audio streams. Previous versions of the Player could not properly open and play files with multiple audio streams. This version is now able to open those files properly, although only the first audio stream may be played.
