Diskeeper vs. Built-in XP Defragmenter!

Published by

Guys,

Have you seen such an entry in your registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Dfrg / BootOptimizeFunction "OptimizeComplete"

If the value is "Yes", it means that the built-in bootdefrag function has completed successfully.

With Diskeeper installed, it always shows "No".

I uninstalled Diskeeper yesterday, defragmented the disk with the built-in defragger.

With Diskeeper installed, it always shows "No". XP defragmenter... Now the value is "Yes"... OK, rebooting...

Wow! It booted a lot faster, about 3 seconds faster (18,75 seconds - analysis done by bootvis.exe). It boots now even faster then when I used bootvis.exe to "optimize the system" when Diskeeper was installed...

Although the built-in defragmenter is a lot slower but it seems to be more reliable. I guess the guys from Executive Software have missed something when they designed their Diskeeper 7.0 apart from Microsoft.

Sad but true...
