Bluetooth Capable Batteries May Be Parents’ Dream Come True

Tetherboard has turned normal AA batteries into Bluetooth devices which can be controlled from your smartphone!

Tetherboard calls the Tethercell (unveiled where else than at this year’s CES!) "the world's first app-enabled smart battery." So in layman’s terms: the engineers at Tetherboard have taken a AA sized battery, fitted it with a Bluetooth device and placed a AAA battery inside the shell.

What does this mean to you? Think about it: Little Johnny’s toy gun that makes all that infernal racket suddenly loses power just in time for the game. The Mrs’s goes to flip through the 4,000 channels at night when, alas, the batteries in the remote are dead. You can even set time limits to the devices the Tethercell powers! The device is controlled by an app that can be downloaded to your smartphone or tablet and from there, you posses power only God has had.

For future models, the company is aspiring to incorporate an alert system that notifies when your batteries are low on juice. At the moment, Tetherboard is working with investors to mass market this things and hopes to decrease the price from the current $20 to under $10.

Of course you will be forgoing some power and longevity when you make the switch form AA to AAA sized batteries but, I mean, come on! Johnny’s obnoxious gun sounds, or a peaceful Sunday game? The choice may be yours very soon.
