My main processor for the last few months has been the excellent AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (Barton). Coupled with the NF7-S I have in my main PC it was able to obtain 3200+ speeds without breaking a sweat. Here for review today I have one of AMD's new 64-bit based processors, the Opteron 146. On the display quality front there were no noticeable differences between the two cards in 3D. I would be happy to own either for gaming purposes (based on image quality) and I'm quite sure that if you sat most people down in front of a system with each card in it they would be hard pushed to notice any image quality differences. 2D however is slightly nicer on the Radeon, its more crisp and vibrant than the FX. Whilst in normal desktop use this is not a big issue if your going to be working on graphics or watching films the Radeon would be the best card to use.
