AMD Demos Hammer Processor Running 32/64-bit Software

SiliconStrategies.com reports that at today's Comdex trade show, Advanced Micro Devices Inc. will demonstrate its high-end, 64-bit microprocessor running a prototype version of Microsoft Corp.'s 64-bit Windows operating system.

AMD's high-end ?Hammer? chip, dubbed Opteron, will also run 64-bit versions of Microsoft's Internet Information Server (IIS), Terminal Services, and Internet Explorer. AMD is expected to ship the Opteron next year.
