AMD Barton 3200+ Preview

Michael S @ Lost Circuits has posted his preview of AMD's Barton 3200+ processor! Here's a byte.

It follows that AMD has to take the plunge and move on to the next bus interface frequency level which is 400 MHz data rate or more precisely 400 Mbps (Megabit per pin and second). The problem is, that most of the current chipsets already have problems running the memory bus at 400 MHz, not to mention the boards that are not capable of coping with the required FSB frequency either. Realistically, at present, there is only a handful of mainboards that are able to run at a 200/400 MHz FSB but what appeared almost impossible only 2-3 months ago becomes more common as we speak. In addition, pressure from the overclocking community that, once again is setting the pace has forced the manufacturers to improve their boards on the layout as well as on the component quality level.
