13 Year old Kenyan Boy Saves His Cows From Lions...

What do you do when you're just a thirteen year old boy who has to defend your family's herd of cows against lions in Kenya? Well, this kid used spare car parts, LED lights, and good old fashioned ingenuity.

Richard Turere was sick and tired of having the lions eat his cows, so he developed a way to deter them without having to shoot them, like most farmers do.

It all started a few years ago when he was nine (NINE!) years old and would walk around the perimeter of the cows' pen with a flashlight, keeping the cows safe. On those nights, there were no lion attacks. So, being a clever lad, Richard developed lighting system that he calls the Lion Lights.

Using only a car battery for power, Richard attached some LED lights to the power source and through some trial and error (he had never received any training prior) managed to make this system that flashes randomly to simulate a human walking with a flashlight. Richard also used a solar panel to help recharge his battery and keep it going. Since he has installed his system, there has not been one single attack.

Everyone is so proud of Richard that the local conservationist raised enough funds to send to him to school. Awww!
