xp home cd-rom problems! please help!

I am using windows XP home and about 2 or 3 months after using it i try to open my cd-rom drive. I have 2 (burner,DVD) both say "error: E:/ or F:/ is not accessable access denied. sometimes only one will say this or both will. Then if i restart or sometimes if i try a different user they will work. Anyone know what is causing this?? In compaq communities some guy told me to d-load the system rom file and update it but i did that and still does it. can someone please help me. this is driving me nuts!

yea

well this issue is resolved. i uninstalled the devices then restarted then it said the drivers were setup and stuff and i had restart again. Then my brother got on and he said the cd-rom was still doing the same and he restarted. after that i got a blue screen saying i had a unmountable boot volume and it wouldn't let me get into safe mode or anything so i had to reformat the drive. well thats the only way i knew of doing it.
