I have a GeForce2 32mb graphics card, with XP pro on as my OS.

When I download and use the latest official Microsoft XP Certified drivers for my card, my computer freezes and then reboots, tellin me nv4_disp.dll is to blame. It says it has been caught in a repeating loop or the hardware is faulty. When I use the default drivers that came with XP, it doesn't hang. However these drivers are not good and I want to be able to play games properly, ie - fast with the latest Detonator XP drivers.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Same here. I can run Quake 3, but any other game requiring the newest OpenGL from nVidia i am screwed. I think that WinXP will be a nightmare for the next few months until this stuff is sorted out.

Hey everyone thought I would post my experience with XP and det. drivers

For some strange reason everytime I tried to play N4 the game would freeze. Tried all det. XP drivers. Thought first it was the game since I could play MaxPayne without hiccups. Then I couldn't run 3DMark 01' without getting errors. Come to find out that running my fsb at anything above default(133) would cause N4 or 3DMark to crash. At default settings I can run N4 all day long. Thinking its my memory but I can still play Maxpayne at 150. Then I thought it was my Geforce2 Ultra but I can overclock the card and run N4 at 133fsb easily. So I'm thinking, well I really don't know what to think of it. My specs are below if interested.

As of now I have no issues with any of the det.XP drivers as long as I keep the fsb at 133. Hope this helps some.

For anybody else out there dealing with this nv4_disp.dll error. I am running a Geforce 3 and no driver seemed to solve the problem. I finally tried the refresh rate fix available here on warp2search and it fixed all my problems. No more lockups and no more crashes to the desktop. Hope this helps.

I've got kind of a similar problem;

Sometimes, just for the hell of it, WinXP pro will remove my graphics driver for my Elsa Gladiac MX (be it dets, the winxp defaults for my card or ones from the elsa site) after it has been working for days on end. I have done an upgrade install from ME, and then a clean install and it does the same both times...anybody got any ideas?

same probs here guys I heard by using an pre XP driver eg. 12.90 the crashes should go away, Im told it's to do with DX8.1 rather than XP itself and as XP ships with 8.1 its only XP users complaining. Im not saying I'm right, im just saying what i have been told.

Apparently the newer drivers with support for 8.1 are using the wrong type of software rendering for shadows which causes the bsod nad as ge force 3's have hardware processing for shadows they dont get affected. (apparently)

I saw in a couple of other forums people were having the same problems,even with ati cards.It seems to be a problem with the agp bridge driver problem Microsoft has to fix.

If you are using motherboards with VIA chipsets I would head over to viahardware.com and look in their forums there is a guy over there that created a patch to solve infinite loop errors with newer Nvidia and ATI cards

Oh this is nasty.
I'm running an Asus A7v133 with and AMD 1.33 CPU, with an ATI Radeon 7000 card. My system has been locking solid recently while playing back Divx (I've actually had to reboot). I've tried switching drivers, (divx codec), and audio drivers, thinking it was something else. Now I'm starting to wonder if it isn't the damn VIA bus driver. Thanks for the info on the patch...
Damn XP Pro (but can't live without it!!!)
