WinXP Pro 2600 vs SP1 Beta

Hi everybody, I've installed the SP 1 for XP and, while rebooting, the PC started to hang up: it freezes when trying to load "mup.sys"... :o
Any ideas ???

mup.sys is part of WindowsNT/2k/XP's "distributed filesystem service" you don't need it unless you're on a big corporate network using active directory.

If you can get into windows (maybe through safemode) try setting Distributed link tracking and Distributed Transaction co-ordinater services to disabled. (under controlpanel > administrator tools > services)

If that dosn't work you could try running regedit, doing a search for mup.sys and deleting it, but this *might* stop windows booting, it shouldn't though.

Hmm I've been using SP1 for a week without any probs, not that I had any before installing it either. But playing around with beta software is half the fun of computers IMO. Smile

I had the exact same problem after installing my new graphics card. It turns out that my SBLive was having some kind of conflict with the card, and by manually setting IRQs in the BIOS I was able to fix it after much tweaking. In the interim, I just had to unplug my soundcard, and it would get past mup.sys with no problems. Have you added any hardware since installing SP1? This could be it...if not, I don't know.

haninging on boot

I found out what caused this "hanging" at boot with bootvis.
Problem: CD driver
Solution: Plug in cables correctly

Might be different in your cases. 8)

I don't understand why people install betas and then run around crying about it when it's not working.

I m getting sick of people wondering why people are using Beta and Leaked programmes, applications , SP,drivers.... People who cant understand this should not surf "Warp2Search" or sites like this

OK back2business, Has anyone found any performance-BOOST after installing XP SP1. Or has anyone found his problem with XP solved After installing it.

Please mention ur XP Version.

Peace, KYRO.

Performance

AFter installing Beta 1065 of SP1, I had no performance increases . . . the only thing I noticed that had even changed was a warning in Internet Explorer saying that my downloads might contain viruses . . . that was it.

I tried installing 1072 - which went without issue (after uninstalling 1065).
But still no changes, except that MSN Messenger became unstable, and that IE message was still there.

I installed 1075 on top of 1072, being too lazy to uninstall 1072, and when I tried uninstalling 1075, it screwed up and gave me blue screens, so I reformatted.

But during the whole adventure, I had no performance increases . . . I'm gonna wait now until the final sp1 update comes out in about a month, and slipstream that onto a windows XP CD and reformat.
