Windows Update Error :(

I recently tried going to Windows Update to find that when I click on Scan For Updates I get an error saying:
"Windows Update Error. Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested page.

Select from any of the following pages for information about Windows Update services, or send us your feedback."

Now i've had no previous problems and this kept on going for about a week now.
I don't know what the problem is but I want it to go back to normal.
Help me pls.

Ty in advance.

here's what I had to do to get mine working again:

Step 1: Register Internet Explorer dlls

1. Click "Start" and click "Run..".

2. Input "cmd" and press Enter.

3. In the prompt Window

Input "regsvr32 SOFTPUB.DLL" (without quotation mark), press enter and click ok on succeeded message.

4. Please also input the following command to register other dlls.

regsvr32 SOFTPUB.DLL

regsvr32 WINTRUST.DLL

regsvr32 INITPKI.DLL

regsvr32 DSSENH.DLL

regsvr32 Rsaenh.dll

regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll

regsvr32 sccbase.dll

regsvr32 slbcsp.dll

regsvr32 Cryptdlg.dll

regsvr32 mssip32.dll

5. Temporarily disable third-party firewall program and check the issue again.

Step 2: Clean Boot

==========

1. Click Start and Click Run, and in the "Open" line, type in "MSCONFIG" (without the quotation marks) and click OK.

2. Under the Service tab, check "Hide All Microsoft Services", and then uncheck all the services listed.

3. Under the General tab, put a check next to "Selective Startup" and uncheck Load Startup Items and click OK.

4. Choose Yes to restart the computer.

5. Check "don't show this message or launch the system configuration utility when windows start".

NOTE: We can check on Normal Startup in the General tab to roll back the original system status.

Please then go to Windows Update web site and test if the issue is resolved.

Also make sure that the date in windows is accurate! Also what OS do you have? if it is windows xp it could be a bad SP1 serial number that prevents you from making any further update!

A Possibility...

Make sure you haven't disabled your Automatic Update Service in Services within your Control Panel...

Set it to Manual this way it will at least be able to start...

At least with XP SP2 this service if not turned on will make V5 of Windows Update report errors as well...
