Win XP Pro DMA enabling

Hi,

I have a real strange thing happening. I can not find anywhere how to disable and enable dma for my DVD-ROM/CD-RW .... it says everywhere click on device manager then IDE ATA then properties then advanced.. everything works fine with me until advanced.. i don't find any advanced properties tab !!!!!!
I have a CUSL-2 mobo with Intel 815E chipset, and i am runnung Intel application accelerator...

Any idea ???

You need to do a right click on the "primary (or secondary) ide channel" > "properties" and then "advanced options"

bye

Read the intel Application Accelerator Page. It says you don't need it for XP.

Intel application accelerator updates the driver of your motherboard's controller and replaces it with "ULTRA ATA CONTROLLER". The management of this driver is completely done through the application accelerator software and there are very few options offered, you cannot change dma to pio because it chooses the best settings, (which is accurate most of the time BUT there are rare exceptions)... Uninstalling intel application accelerator would give you back the advanced tab... but I do not recommend it. This soft solves all the problem it can and reduces the bottlenecks of your hardware. Removing wouldn't increase your performance.

And it does help a lot even in XP... especially with dvd-rom drives and recent hard-drives

I had a similiar prob with my rig, only I have an AMD Athlon. I took Pegla's advice and downloaded the via IDE busmaster.

It now sets my C: drive and DVD on IDE Channel 1 to UDMA 2 and my D: drive on IDE channel 2 to UDMA 4 (it supports dma66).

Everything now seems to work a treat! DVD plays extra smooth and C: drive is much faster.

Thanks Pegla, you're a star.
