Win XP or Win 98se

SInce i'm having problems with AGP with win Xp I'm considering going back to 98se. Any thoughts on that. I seem to forget why I would want XP more anyway. Which would you guys use? I mostly do online gaming and this new Morrowind is eating up my free time now.

P.S. not a XP flame just dont know if I need what it offers.
P.P.S. cant wait till SWG is out. Im really looking forward to that one.

What problems are you having with AGP? Get the latest video and chipset drivers.

I don't recommend you to go back to win98se. I did this myself and I noticed it's SO buggy compared to winxp.

I had the same problems on my older box. If all you do is game, go win98se, it's the easiest to work with and requires less tweaking. I have Xp on my good box and 98se on the older one

For a pure gaming box Win98SE isnt too bad, especially if it's the only way to get AGP going properly in your setup.

However if you do a lot of office work or web browsing, or want to keep your system on 24/7 XP or 2000 is definately the way to go.
Also a lot of new games are beginning to focus on the W2k/XP development, so it's possible you might start getting better performance in XP, that is if you can get AGP working...

Why don't you just set up a dual-boot of win98se & XP? Have the best of both worlds. I've got a tri-boot of Win98SE, Win2K Pro & XP Pro. 98 for older games like F22 ADF, NFS5 & Project IGI. Operation Flashpoint seems to run best in Win2K. RTCW works well with XP. I use XP for internet/work related activities because of the advanced GUI.

OS opine

The biggest thing to realize about XP is it doesn't allow game refresh rates, you have to get a patch or utility that will force XP to allow the shift, it's become a fairly wide spread issue alot of people are fragged about.

I personally stayed with 98SE which is THE BEST os for us gamer fanatics.
I have a good friend that is dual booting 98SE and XP and has many issuses setting up XP on games, vid cards, ect if u have 98SE, stay there until they make an XP-SE or a SP that will truly FIX the problems :o

BTW Win ME is a bad joke, resourse hog POS !! ( IMHO )

Resource hog ? My WinME runs at 94%. Of course, when I got my computer, it was running on 63% resources and was slow as fuck. You just need to know how to tweak it and which programs to remove. BTW, you only need a few things on start up, everything else is optional.

You can acces this by clicking on the Start button, clicking on Run, and finally entering "msconfig." Afer that, go to the startup tab and uncheck everything but systray, explorer, scanregistry, *statemgr, and anything that you want to load on start up. Oh, if you have ME and more than 512 MB of RAM, be sure to go to the General Tab in MSConfig, click on advanced, and check "Limit memory to x" and set it to 512 MB. WinME won't work properly if it uses more than 512 MB of RAM.

Of course, I really want XP Pro, but it's my parents computer and they don't want Windows XP because they were told that Windows ME is the best OS. Apparently they've been getting their information from the psychiatric ward in our local hospital.
