Why wont it work?

Hey I have an ASUS p4B533-e mainboard with 2x256meg ddr ram 2100 cl 2.5 and a p4 2.266ghz (533) cpu and when i put both sticks of ram in the system becomes unstable

can anyone tell me why? I have tried the ram configurations in the mainboard book, but that doesnt seem to help any

This is the second mainboard which is having the same problems.. both the same mainboard, any help would be mostly appreciated thanks

Have you tried updating the bios? The latest BETA for that board is only 9days old. Asus usually release a few fixes for things like that in later bios releases.

Also have you tried setting the ram to the slowest settings in bios, then turning off and putting in both? One could be bad, or of a lower spec.

reduce your ram timings to cas 2.5@ 2-5-3, i'm using a Asus P4b266 I845d, it also supports the 133mhz bus heh i'm running a P4 1.8@2.4ghz, and I'm also using crappy generic Pc2100, can't wait to get a 512mb stick of Pc2700, so i can exceed the 137mhz max of this crappy ram.
