VisionTek Ti 4600 with Quake 3 and Generations

Can someone explain this to me? Whenever I play Q3A or Generations with 4X AGP, I can be assured I will have a lock-up at some point of the game. I haven't played Q3TA long enough for it to happen. The only remedy is to power down to 2X AGP. I have version 1.30, however, it also happened when I reinstalled the original Q3A version without upgrading it, no matter what the settings are.

Now, this never happens with any other games powered by the Q3A engine such RTCW, Star Trek Voyager, Elite Force, or MOHAA as I can enjoy these games for hours in 4X AGP mode. In fact, this doesn't happen with any other game.

The only game I have that is particular is Star Wars Star Fighter. It will not load with any ansio enabled, but is OK with FSAA at any level.

I play all games at 1600 X 1200, Max Ansio, and sight FSAA if the game really needs it.

Crucial Specs:
Win ME, P3 933, 768 MB SDRAM (Micron CAS2), 60 Gig Matrox HD, and VisionTek Ti 4600. 3D Mark 2001 SE = 7100

Thanks,
Joe

Upgrade your OS for starters

Not that it might be directly related, but getting rid of Windows ME would be a step in the right direction. I run WinXp with GF4 Ti4600 personally, and never ran into any issues with any games at AGP 4x. Also depending on your system config (mobo chipset,AGP driver, ect.) I would update any drivers that might be considered very old. Hope this helps alittle

8) I have a PIII/1000, CUSL2 mother board, ATA 133 hard drive,
512mb cas/3, GF4ti4600, my 3dmark2001se score is= 7385,my PC
mark 2002 score is = cpu=2551, memory=1877, HDD=992, is this
in the ball park or what!!?? Also, before u delve into GF4 territory,
especially if u have a PIII/700--1200, you better update your ini.
files for your chipset, BIOS, all updated drivers for your sound, video, hard disk ata in the device mng., cd drive etc...,and also your network hookup if u have a 2 computer setup, on a hub,
or switch, & also a router........all this is with WIN 98 SE,hell with XP until the SE comes out, then maybe I'll try it?! Good luck hope
this helps!!! {:|>
