VIA KT-266a chipset + soundblaster problems

If you have this chipset and are running a SB card, or having other strange problems, dont blame the SB card as i did.

Via screwed up the pci latencey balance in this chipset.

Thankfully George Breese has come to the rescue with a little patch/chip tweaker that will re-instruct the chipset

you can find this at http://www.networking.tzo.com/net/software

I've been running it for about a week and it has really helped system stability alot, and i'm seeing a performance increase (better speed) Big Grin

Excellent!

I've been suffering from distorted audio playback when accessing my HDD and problems copying from my DVD-Rom drive.

Isn't it nice when you find a solution to a problem you thought you'd never fix.

Smile

Could the problem also relate to the Sound Blaster's lack of PCI 2.1 compliance?

I'm not aware of SoundBlasters pci compatability settings
All i know for sure is what I've read about the latency issue involved with this chipset, if my post has helped you I'm glad of it.

I got rid of my SB card BEFORE i found this solution Cry and now I'm running onboard sound !

Good luck !!
