USB 1 & USB 2 - How can you tell?

I have some pci usb cards and the newer, usb2
cards seem to have a red, white, & blue stamping
on them so I believe that will tell us about pci
cards. I dont know for sure if all of the newer
pci cards will have that stamp, but I will find
out soon as I ordered a different one yesterday.

How about the cables themselves? I have a
bunch of usb 1 cables and now I have usb 2.0 cables
as well. I put a cardboard keytag sorta thing on the 2.0
cables so I could tell.

But I am wondering if there was a way to tell one cable
from the other by looks alone? I dont think so but
if someone knows different, I would like to know.

Also, how about a program or someother way of
figuring out the transfer speed of the cable and/or
device being used? That would really be helpful.
Does anyone know of such a program? I'm sure
this would be helpful to lots of us! Course maybe
everybody else knows and I am the only geek on
earth who doesnt!

Thanks

Thats something I dont know,
i took a look at some USB Cables my self and I came up with no answer, they look the same to me,
you'd probably have to look at the cables inside the casing.

I have an aluminum USB 2.0 3 1/2 - 5 1/4 box for hard drives, cdroms, etc, and the cable on it has no markings.

Also, I bought a brand name (Newpoint) set of usb 2.0 cables and they have no markings on them that say usb 2.0 so I had to mark them my self.

I am hoping someone knows of a software prog that will tell the speed of a cable.

from my knowledge both cables are the same, its only the controller that has been enhanced. Note: Enhanced USB 2.0 Controller.

something similar to utp cable that can do 10mbit/100mbit on same cable.

Good point, that is part of the reason for my post. I was wondering if maybe these cables are dual-purpose and I was also thinking about the controller issue.

Does anyone else have any knowledge or thoughts about the cables?

Does anyone else know of a program that can test the speed of a usb connection or even a download/upload speed? I imagine the d\load\upload speed is determined also by the type of device as well as usb 1.1\usb 2.0. So probably the best program would test the speed or speed capabilities of a particular usb connection. There must be some such prog out there. I think I will try lockergnome, they are pretty good at these kinda things.
I will put any info I get back into this thread so stay tuned, give me a bump once in a while? I'm sure others would like to know about this?

Thanks
