Exclamation  Uknown Device, Wireless Adapter

Hello all
I have just reformatted my wifes laptop and i ve installed windows xp on it.
I installed all the drivers and everything worked perfect.
Finally i tried to install my wireless usb adapter DLINK DWL-G122 REV3 and i ve installed it through the cd.
I managed to connect to my wireless network and i did windows update.
After the restart im getting new device found and is trying to recognise it and then im getting unknown device.
I uninstall the program which came on the cd and reinstall it and i still getting the same error.
Is there something i can do to fix it?
i ve tried the adapter on my laptop and works fine so there is no problem with the adapter.
Any suggestions?
