but as for driver software I would surely go for nV !!!
nVidia drivers are simply much better then ATis
I am very happy about switching back to nV

-ATI OpenGL is fine just not as fasty as Nvidias
-Who cares about Linux
Linux is not the Best OS to play games anyway
-ATI drivers are great
Not a single problem with whtatever game i have played (except some minor Texture Flickering in some games that alwys get fixed with a newer driver anyway)
but I agree they are not so compatible with certain games as Nvidia Forceware
We are not talking about X800pro but about X800XL
The X800XL is faster from the 6800GT especially in high resolution with AA and AF

Very often I read test about graphic cards. Then I read something about the quality of the cards and the used components e.g. The chip for TV out and VGA Signal. In many tests the vga and the dvi signal of the radeon cards in high resolution is better than that of the geforce.
This is most more than 5%. Often they say that the geforce made a ugly picture.
Then they show a picture with the frequency of the signal and it looks ugly by the geforce and nice by radenon. This is one reason I brought a radeon x800 PCIe.
Something about the driver:
The drivers are not as bad as anyone says.
The drivers a getting better with every new release.
Nearly every month there is a new driver which has a great improvement.
The texture quality and the other problems fix are done rely fast I thing.
Sometime it is not the fault of ATI that something is not right.
Sometimes ATI doesn´t get the info fast enough to provide a driver at the release date or they don´t know about a problem in a game.
Nvidia is sometimes the sponsor of a game and stops the programme to give ATI infos.
In the other way ATI dose the same.
Linux is a different thing I don´t won´t talk about here.

it will just work for many people without a glitch ... but there are serious problems within the driver that are not being fixed until today
just to name the 160HZ+ bug ... how can a driver even dare to set the refresh rate higher then 160Hz on first boot ?
OK I have found out that there is a false detect of my monitors refresh rate ... I don't say anything here .... but the question is why is ATi not able to just force 60Hz on FIRST boot whats set then should be users choice ...
but when you install catalyst and the first thing you see is "Out of range" on your monitor ..... that really sucks ...
and some more things to name ...
things that simply do no exist on nVidia drivers ... I was even asked during driver install to specify a Monitor which is IMpossible with ati you have to reboot befor installing a monitor driver

It pi***ed all over the next few generation NV cards and is still a good card.
I now have an X800 XT PE and it is awesome in all games. The monthly updates for the card are great and if you compare this to all the leaked betas from Nvidia where you try at your own risk it is awesome.
I'm never going back to Nvidia. BTW Dawn looks truely magnificent at 4xAA 16XAF on my system. Dawn sleeps with ATI!!

the 9800 is an absolutely serious card ... I mean the
5xxx series was crap and the 9800 was perfectly designed to fit all needs
but would you have ever thought about buying an ATI card when GF1 / GF2 were out ? there nV was totally superior ...
and now it seems to change again back to nV ... while nV already released it next gen card ATi is pushing back its release while promising stupid " ++++++30%" with next driver release which is BS
we gotta watch the situation for one or two more month and see how the tides turn

e.g. Half Life 2
or new driver with 5% more performance ....
which indeed hat 5% more that was no lie but how do I profit from 5% in 3dmark 05 ??? games proved to be just the same ... its all about fooling noobs ... and both companies do that ...
Help
