I'm glad you decided to pick one up. There *is* a noticeable difference between the 5800 and the 5900 (I have both). First, naturally, is the noise level of the card. Second, run your suite of benchmarks before with the 5800 and then after with the 5900, and you'll see what I'm talking about. :)

You're right, the UT benchmark (Antalus) went up from 111fps - 130fps: 3DMark2k3 jumped 1400marks and 3DMark2k1 went up by 2500marks.

I know the XT9800 pro is a better card but it costs £100 more. £'s per pixel makes the FX5900 256 ultra better value for money.

LOL.

£ per pixel, the 5900 works out better value than the 9800. Unless you shop on Ebay, which I wont because I don't trust it. Heard too many horror stories.

Either way a 9700Pro is more than enough for today. I don't see why people come asking if their new PC's will take HL2 and Doom3. If you wanna play those 2 games then buy the PC when they come out. Should be simple.

I'm happy with my 5900, if it has trouble with HL2 or any other game I'll just buy a new card....simple

A big difference between the two cards is the strenth of the cards. Especially when you set the AA + FSAA, you see a advantage in display quality and 3D filters in games.

The second big advantage is the extreme soundlvel of the 5800 is gone. The 5900 is a quite still vga card.

OC possibilities compared with the 2 ones:

The FX 5800[ 400 / 800 ] was possible to OC to the same speed as the Ultra [ 500 / 1000 ]

Someone says in this topic, it is the same as an upgrade from a TI 4200 to a TI 4400, really not the same.

I am testing this stuff the whole day by an importing company, so i see the differences between all excisting vga cards

Testsetup :

Albatron PX 865 PE Pro II
Pentium 4 3ghz 800mhz FSB
2 x Adata 256mb Dual channel PC 3200 450mhz

Windows XP Home Sp1
DirectX 9.0b
Forceware 51.90 / 52.16 / 52.70 / 53.03

Rivatuner

Highest score in 3Dmark03 build 340 :

FX 5950 [ 550 / 1040 = 7230 ]

So how does your 5950 compare with the 5900 ultra?

I heard it's about 10-15% faster, is it worth upgrading?
