after years of faithful AMD experimenting I now want to build a "somewhat" budget P4 system. I want Hyperthreading and a 800mhz fsb that I can o/c to 1 gig or more with the proper memory. All I need is the proc, mobo and memory. I'm thinking of using Kingston HyperX KHX4000K2 memory but am looking for sugggestions as to the proc and mobo. I want FAST!!!

ThudZ3ro :-
Me:- humm .. tricky one.
El_Coyote :-
Me : - Ouch :knife: .
. lol . Well .. dont think ThudZ3ro is really talking about low budget but rather calculative and just over the edge spending .. thats a very picky difficult one (if i am right so far)
I would really suggest ThudZ3ro to go for Athlon 64 FX and combo .. but have no idea what mullah will it cost . happy hunting ThudZ3ro :)

I mean a proc and mobo that costs less combined than a bare Athlon 64 FX retail box or one of the new SE P4's. I know what the memory is going to cost and there is no way around that...

P4HT 2.4GHz, and pick a board :)

I've had great luck with Asus boards over the years. I want dual-channel memory. Which is better for overclocking: Asus P4C800 or Intel D875PBZ???
Delta
Only the IC7-G MAX3 is considered as a heavy overclocker mobo.
Some abit Ic7 series mobo tend to have faulty chipset coolers.
Intel p4c800 is a very stable mobo.
You can easily overclock a 2.4ghz and use 250 FSb, and gain a very good core speed. this processor is increddible.
crucial are know for value for money if u have a budget. Corsair are very good as well.
You can opt for a pc3200 or pc4000 as RAM

I still haven't popped for my "next" box because of the new Prescotts. Should I get a Canterwood or wait for the newer proc? Which mobo???
dredlock
I like the mobo i have..(see below) it lets you change the FSB on the fly from windows without any reboot only thing about the prescott is it runs warm...my old 2.4 northy ran at..90F...my 2.8 prescott runs around 130F....but for overclocking the prescott will overclock better....they did 2 3.0ghz p4's against each other N and P for short...the N could only go to 3.4 while the P booted at 4.1@70C. P will be better due to the .09 manufacturing process.
