Just want to share a possible fix for DirectX games crashing to desktop with Geforce cards
I was experiencing a regular crash to desktop when running Battlefield 1942 or the NOLF2 demo usually about half and hour into the game. I tried all sorts, BIOS changes, Video Drivers, sound drivers etc. In the end what appeared to fix it was I dropped my refresh rate for the resolution I run games in 1024x768 from 100Hz (maximum for my monitor) down one level to 85Hz. Now I have run the sames games for hours without CTD's.
If you have problems setting refresh rates with Geforce4 try using the NVRefreshtool 2.0.
Also check with your monitor OSD what refresh rate it is actually using.
I appreciate this problem may just be peculiar to my setup, I may have a faulty card, but it's just possible it may be more common problem. Hope it helps.
