Got 3 responses:
Intel 2.8GHZ P4 @ 3.21GHZ = 31*C (watercooled)
AMD 2100+ @ 2.36GHZ = 43*C (watercooled)
AMD 1700+ @ 1.83GHZ = 42*C (air-cooled)

Hi all
one thing of crucial importance seems to have been largely forgotten, room temp!
If room temp is 10C higher, your CPU will be too if using air cooling.
For some reason with water cooling, my cpu temps dont vary as much with room temp.
Some components may go into overload if they get too warm and will further boost temperatures. This is hard to quantify so is mostly ignored. Bear it in mind if your temps are quite high.
Room temp is NOT the same as motherboard/system temp which can vary wildly.
My room temp here at 5:30am is 18C, windows open.

CPU
idle = 32C
load = 39C
load = 42C during the day (room=26C)
Check my sig for machine spec.

Another thing to bear in mind is that different motherboard models / BIOS's report different temps so no comparison is valid unless all measured with a good external sensor.
Sorry to blow the candle but it really is true.

These arent bad sensors and are pretty cheap. They can be mounted in a panel easily too
http://store.over-clock.com/Adaptors___Connectors.html
They have to be better than the current fiasco. I have 3 of them Smile
Many of you will have drive bays with temp sensors. These are just as good. None of these are calibrated so a few degrees C variance is to be expected.

Note:
My CPU temps went up nearly a couple of degrees C after changing a very overclocked FX5900 for a overclocked 6800GT, even though I use water cooling for just the cpu with an external radiator. Interesting...

my toaster temps...

cpu: 54°C amd k6-2 fanless, because its broken
mb: 35°C p5a, no fans, no heatpipes

the temps are insane, but its running stable
got only one fan in the psu

gf fx 5200 is downclocked to 166/100 for internet use and fanless too

21-24°C idle with CnQ enabled
~36°C on full load @ XP-120 with 8V 120Fan
system @ 32-33°C
PWM @ 35-36°C

damn cool for an inaudible air cooling
