You can choose from x86 and SPARC when you order it.

Re: Solaris 9

Solaris 9 has been released for the SPARC and is now avaliable to buy (and soon to download).

As for the x86 version, that is still up in limbo as to whats happening with its future.

Sun announced they were going to cancel Solaris for x86, but due to a massive response, they are reconsidering. But, don't hold your breath... Sun says the biggest problem with the x86 version is the lack of driver support from video, sound card, etc companies. And I can see them getting tired of answering the same question over and over again.. "Sorry Sir/Ma'am, that device isn't supported by Solaris for x86".

I recommend that you go to Ebay or a dealer and pick up a cheap Ultra 10 (Supports IDE, so your hard drives are cheap) or put together an x86 system with all the supported devices.

Personally and IMHO, if you are going to use Solaris don't bother with an x86.. Use the right tools for the right OS, get a SPARC.
