Snap, Crackle and Pop???

I've tried everything but when playing Battlefield my sound will start skipping and repeating but the system doesn't lock up but it's unbareable to listen to.

I've used the Asus Drivers 1.16, the Nvidia 2.45 and no matter what the sound is for crap???

I even can hear snaps and pops while playing other games also including the one mentioned above...

What is weird is that it's not every single time I play Battlefield. I've set max sounds and min sounds and still have same problem.

Music sounds great but once in game I can hear in the back ground a ticking type sound then if I fire my gun or create any other noises that's when it goes completely hay wire... The machine gun will keep repeating and going crazy.

This happened on both my version 1.0 board and now with my 2.0 board but might I add WORSE on the 2.0 board, I used on the 1.0 the 3.37 drivers without any problems what so ever, those were the only ones I could get to work on that board without problems and tried even going back to them on my 2.0 board from the 3.48's that come with the latest driver release but to no avail... I'm now back to the default ASUS drivers 1.16 but this did not help either???

To see if anyone else can create this problem, the worse game for me is Battlefield, but if you start the game and go in and change to Hardware which will set to default of 31 sounds, may be 63 for some, SAVE then enter game and make noise. Then go back out with ESC key and change to like 64 regular instead of the Hardware setting or any number then SAVE and hit ESC again (This puts you back in game) repeat above steps again.

I hear in the back ground though once the game starts and is at the server screen a snapping or ticking sound but very faint and at this point I know my sound will be hosed, this isn't every time though...

If I don't hear that ticking or snapping then my games sound will be fine, but if I change anything while in game I can screw it up by changing to Hardware or changing the number of sounds heard??? (I KNOW DON'T SCREW WITH IT), I don't when it is fine, only when it I hear that damn back ground noise...

you are usuing onboard sound? dont. the hardware layout is usually quite bad when it comes to onboard sound, so that noice and other interference from things like fans are audible at high load situations.

some boards have ok layouts, and the AC'97 standard is also quite fine.

so im guessing that is the problem. on my laptop i have the same issue where i can hear the harddrive through the speakers, when other sound applications are active.
