I also tried everything before I stumbled on this simple solution. Get rid of the SB Live! POS and get a new sound card. I purchased a TB Santa Cruz and have never been happier. I know there are probably better cards out there but I have not heard a snap, crackle or pop since I ditched my SB Live.

I have a sblive orginal x-gamer and a sblive 5.1 oem..... the orginal card has no snap crackling and pop issues while the 5.1 hasem galore and the only way to get rid of the poping is to keep my cpu not overclocked, its a PIII 650 i had it at 806mhz 124mhz bus, with the orginal live. that orginal Live is now in my athlon xp 1600+ witch is overclocked on a 143mhz to 1800+ 1.53ghz, I have no issues with the live Orginal Xgamer, but jus to see why the hell the Oem 5.1 crackles on my PIII i poped it into my athlon, and guess what it still crackled, lowered the fsb on the XP to 133mhz default, crackling went away.... yet the orginal Live had no problems at all hmmmm I think the Live 5.1's have bad yields and can't tolerate a outa spec Pci bus, or its the drivers on the 5.1, as the 5.1 uses diff drivers from the orginal Live!, belive me i tried using the Orginal Lives drivers on the 5.1, they wouldn't work at all, couldn't even detect the card withem....... If u wanna use a Sblive! look for the orginal's not the 5.1 models, thier hard to find but in my experince a hell of alot better.

snap, crackle & pop

i also had these problems which plagued me for several weeks..... i then stumbled upon the solution...... i changed a setting in my BIOS under the "system performance" catagory..... i changed it from "optimal" to "normal" (maybe it was vice-versa). But since i have done that, NO MORE SNAP, CRACKLE OR POPS!!! yeah!!!! BTW, overclocking does not have any negative effects to this LOL
