Sandra has lost the plot!!!

Now I just installed SiSofta Sandra 2003 Pro and it was all good but the funny thing was that it found that my GFX card was an MSI when actually its a Creative 3dBlaster :-? :-? :-? . Now I know it must be a Creative because it has a Creative badged fan and it (i think  ) says Creative Labs on the actual card so whats up? Even on my comp its found that its a Creative.
Btw I bought the card of the net not from a shop Smile .
Any ideas whats going on pls? :o
Thanks in advance! Big Grin

Regards,
WF_Chaos Tongue

No, Sandra is actually telling you the truth. MSI produce cards for other companies to sell under their brand, GF4s for Creative and PNY and Radeons for Medion. Their vendor ID number is still left in the BIOS rather than Creatives hence Sandra claims it's and MSI.

It's MSI made but sold as Creative, which does tend to leave it in limbo support wise. MSI won't supply update BIOS's, drivers or utils since they didn't sell it and neither will Creative since they didn't make it.

Thats confusing. I get what your saying about how MSI made the card and Creative to sell it :-? and yes Creative dont make it because the CD I got with the card was pointless. I had to spend 45mins downloading the driver while my desktop looked like rubbish. :o
So... im so confused :-? :-? :-? :-? .
So what do you think it is? Creative or MSI?
And why is it sold as Creative when MSI make their own cards as well...
Thanks for this btw ehe LOL

If I absolutely had to say I'd say it was an MSI card, since that's what will determine its build quality, reliability, overclockability etc. Creatives practice of rebadgind products is an old one. They've sold all sorts of things under their name, such as cd-rom/DVD drives, modems, DVD decoder cards. They've never built or designed any of them themselves, just stuck their name to it. Creative even sell their own line of Radeons in Asia but stick to nVidia in Europe. MSIs own brand cards tend to include VIVO capabilities and other extras, whereas the Creative ones are fairly unimaginitive and stick to the reference design. Just for the record I have a Creative 3DBlaster GF4 4600, with the huge Creative logo on the heatsink.

Oh ok I get it. But why would MSI let Creative put their badge on it when MSI make cards under their name anyways.
So by me having a Creative, my card won't have the extras? Cry
What if like a MSI or PNY card that was exact same as my 3dBlaster card and compared it... would theirs be better? :o Should I have gotten one of those instead? Cry

MSI let Creative sell the card as thier own, because MSI can make a lot more money selling a million cards to creative at a low cost, compared to just selling only under its own name.

As for support, thats all upto Creative, just because they didnt actually build the hardware dosn't mean they don't make bios and driver updates for it. (although creative are known to be poor even on hardware they make themselves.)

I wouldn't worry about it. Everyone uses the NVidia refrence drivers rather than the manufacturer ones anyway and bios updates wont have much effect on a GF4 anymore, because it's been out so long they've done all the tweaking possible already.
