RADEON 9800PRO DETECTED AS A 9800XT

seeing as all the new technologies are being introduced i decided to use yesteryears performance parts to make a gaming rig with a £550 bugdet

i got

athlon 64 3200+
msi K8T Neo-FIS2R mobo
512 ddr 400 ram
msi rx9800pro

default 3dmark was 18100 which i think is in line for the hardware??

however windows says this is a radeon 9800pro plus with the 9800xt chipset. how is this possible???

msi k8t neo

yes that is true ..
ATi stopped producing R350 cores ...
they only go for R360 cores ... the good ones to XT ...
the "bad" ones to pro ... so they have more use of the product instead of wasting chipsets ... just like any CPU maker does

well you have 9800XT core.
65c temp is not that bad.
Original 9800 XT with XT Fan can reach 95c
use ATITool and tell me how many Pipelines you got.
and what is your core/memory speeds

65'C isnt bad for a 9800pro or xt. Try adding a couple of case fans to remove the hot air if you don't have some already.

ok this is depressing...

i have left everything at the factory settings and done the 3d mark 2003 benchmark using the 9800 pro and my trusty old geforce fx 5900xt goldensample

the 5900xt wins: 6200 vs the 9800pros 5900

i cant return the 9800 pro so i have the option 2 sell that or the 5900xt

how is this possible i thought fxs are bad with dx9 :knife:

you decide upon one benchmark ???
and that one on the most nothing-saying-benchmark ever released ?
you should really rethink this

You should stop complaining and just enjoy both cards.

Id run a few benchmarks before you make a hasty decision, everyone knows about Nvidia " optimisations "

Run things like Aquamark, Shadermark etc.. Run a few games check Frames etc.

But dont base a purchase / sale on 3dmark only

you can try one of those various PRO to XT mod .... see homepage ... flashing BIOS to XT + using modded driver .... while I would not flash BIOS ... using a modded driver is absolutely risk free
then you should have the sensor available ... since PRO cards do not have it ... why should it be enabled in driver
on same clock rate both cards perform the same
the higher clock rate of XT makes ~5% of difference ... but this is different from game to game
