no

depressing ?
the alpha runs fine on 9800 PRO so do you really think you need a 6800 to play the game ???
don't panic doom³ will run fine without spending 1000$ for athlon 64 and 6800 for sure !

cause 4xAA and 8xAF is just plain stupid ...
the Doom engine is just great ... like most other game engines it does not need AA and the effekt of 8xAF is not much noticable ... even more if you compare to 2x which performs much faster ...
and this saves you much of VRAM letting a 128 MB card perform very well
and 2GB RAM ... pfff that will really change nothing looking at performance .. maybe loading times are slower .. but the game will run at same speed ...
again ... the alpha ... version 0.02 run VERY well on 9800 pro ... now the optimised final will work like charm
the alpha has some slow down which is caused due the totally uncompressed data and high disk access ... if everything is preloaded once ... it works without a glitch

i always have 4x aa anf 8af tho; i dropped 2 2xaa/4af and played ut 2003; maybe its pscological but im sure it looks worse :knife:

is there a possibility that the radeon opengl driver is really bad and needs a rewrite :hail:

ok ive been looking at various reviews and some are saying that ati are faster/better images and others say the same for nvidia

which card is better?

i was thinking a lot, and i conclude that i will have 2 revert 2 nvidia for 1 reason; the driver download! atis is 25mb which is 2 big for a payg dial up user!

I like the 9800PRO ... and due the various tests it seems ATi really gives better quality ...
but despite this the card is overall just a better pice of hardware ...
also the driver is crap I am going for Ati again

but isnt 256vram becoming more important with doom 3?

i know it sounds silly that im trying to get a system for doom 3, but the other games coming out on this engine are the kind of mindless killing i live 4! also far cry benches show that its better with nvidia

with ati and their current opengl drivers it seems that they are focused on d3d games, like hl2

also isnt the nv series meant to get a big performance increase from dx9c and this unified shader compiler thing??

the only thing leaning me back 2 nvidia is the extra ram plus it on paper and in benches is faster; with the omega drivers they shud lk as gd as ati

naaa Omega drivers won't fix anything in image quality !
have you ever looked at the pics on the homepage ?
you need glasses to find the difference even on this image ... now to find it within the action of a game ... impossible
no .. 128 MB is enough ... its hardly used by any games now and really is for extremes ... if you go for 1600x1200 @ 6xAA and 16xAF it may be used 100% but if you look at normal values it will be fully enough ... that is just marketing ... this year they even want to start 512MB RAM .... BS

cause nV is "cheating" on farcry ... just watch the frontpage .... pics and benchies say more then rumors ...
2nd ... it runs fine on my 9800PRO so why should I need it faster ? ... there was only one scene up to now that ran slow ... a room 1 room in there it was slow as hell out there ... fast again .... don't know why but pfffff do I care about 1 room ? a small one btw .... ~25m²

just stay with ati
but do what ever you want ...
also ask urselfe ... why does the nV guy want your 9800 ???

a friend of mine wants the radeon 9800pro that i got and will pay me full money as he knows its 2 weeks 'old'

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/..._uid=52330

ive ordered that... i have a few options up my sleeve:

1- get the geforce fx and sell the radeon 2 my friend
2- sell both and then get the 6800gt (tho spending £300 on 1 gfx card is extreme!); im inclining here because the 5900 ultra is sealed new and shud fetch £250 on ebay hopefully... i have no idea why i managed it so cheaply... there are none left as well
3- keep both and rotate their use!! crazy...

realisticly it feels like i wont notice anything performance wise or image wise between them

the thing that is amazing me is how nvidia manages such performance gains on its drivers, whereas ati have been mostly consistant

im killing time and making myself confused.

ps: how is the performance according to hardocp lower than it was when benching the alpha... isnt it meant 2 get faster?

maybe they fucked up something ... maybe it was a configuration thing ... or maybe the final version has just a lot more details then alpha ...
also nV talks about some driver issues that will be fixed with upcoming driver release

what wud b funny is it may end up being not all that; i mean far cry scored higher (by 1 point!!) in pc gamer

ive put all my money in2 this little venture, as i figured that the doom 3 engine shud b used for a gd few yrs

2 b realistic tho i think that i shudnt have upgraded the 2ghz/5900xt as the 9800pro/3200 a64 are not that much better; and i really cant tell the ati.nvidia image quality thing...

im using both rigs and i think that ive wasted all this money for nothing... its really upsetting Cry
