question about XP Pro and security/priveledge options

i got a question about XP Pro's security options. Do you have to boot into safe mode and log on as administrator to be able to take ownership of other users files and add users that are able to veiw this folder. I know in windows 2000 all you do is right click the file and go to security options and you can do it without being in safe mode. I don't see why i would need to be in safe mode to do it with XP Pro and you can also do it in XP home but only if you boot in safe mode. i'm just wondering if there is a way to do it without booting in safe mode??

You should be able to do it in XP Pro by logging in as admin, you can login as admin without going to safemode by turning off the welcome screen in user options, or holding down a certain key, im not sure which though.

Home has it hidden because M$ wanted people to buy Pro if they need access control like w2k, Home is ment for home users who shouldnt need that level of control.

If you're good at the command line you can change the ownership in both Pro and Home by typing "cacls" at the command line.

Re: question about XP Pro and security/priveledge options

CTRL+ALT+DEL x 2 at welcome screen = enable administrator login
Take Ownership options - windows explorer, tools, folder options, disable simple file share. :o

umm

i also figured out that all you need is administrator priveledges to do it. you don't need to login as administrator.
