but the question remains .... how much sense does it make ...
the reality shows that non-dual core optimized apps do suffer performance and with every more CPU you need more CPU management that does cost performance ... and the average user does not do that kind of multitasking or does run apps that would run best on a 1000 CPU array

one really fast CPU is always better then more and more slow ones

at the moment...

OF COURSE
ur right

but i think, the multi CPU is coming more and more
apps and games will be optimized for that
and Singlecore is going to die in some years... 2010
IMHO!!

and if i take a look in my taskmanager...
it´s really looking great what i can see there
both CPU are working together and even with extracting 3GB Files....
my PC has never reached the 100%!
and with my "old" 3200+ Barton....yeahhh....don´t move ur mouse Smile

That depends from the software (program\games)

From 2006 almost all CPUs will be DUAL CORE solutions and when software companies will start taking advantage in their software both 2 (or more) cores then having a Dual core CPU will be better from having 1 really fast proccesor

- ASUS GEFORCE 8800 ULTRA
- 2.0 GB DDR 3200 (2x1GB T1)
- AMD64 X2 4400@???
- Abit AN8-32x
- HD 300GB + 500GB
- Creative X-FI Fatal1ty FPS
- Ms Digital Pro with Logitech MX Revolution

that is true because dual core does really make sense
the trouble comes with more then 2 CPUs

and think of that .... nowadays you put in a new CPU ... every app is fast ... it may not support SS3 or ultraX72 Big Grin but it runs faster because the CPU is faster ...
but in future you always have to ask yourself .... is that 7400+ really fast in any app ?? or is it just the 2 or 3 optimized apps that make use of the 8 core CPU
and what about apps that do not profit form more and more CPU ... apps that do simple calculations without much parallel stuff
in the end you will waste more and more power for just managing all those CPUs
surely Dual Core is very usefull for todays needs but it is reality that Dual core CPUs are much slower for non-optimized apps and as we know some devs take those inventions serious ... but the much bigger part does not care

we will see what future brings
