putt, putt, slooow computer

OK, I can't figure this out.

P4 1.3 Ghz HP system

128 MB RDRAM

Geforce 4 mx 440 64DDR Card

8GB hard drive ATA33

Win XP Pro SP1

---------------------------------

This beast will run slower than a P2 most of the time, and I'm about to toss it out the window... Is it really that crappy?

Any tips?

slow=??? , please clarify more

ur hard-disk @ ata33 can be bottleneck..but not major.
run some benchmarks. sysmark2002, pcmark2002, or even sis-sandra 2003 free ..

to start i would recommend sys sandra 2003. go to http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/index.php?di...86&lang=en. its a 5 mb setup.
when u run the daignose u will also get a comparing chart with similar CPU's and chipsets.
Tell me how much did this helped and do post ur furthur investigations.

KYRO.

The best thing you could do for this rig is more ram or win9x

XP likes 512MB, winMe 256MB and Win9x 192MB

installing another 128 mb of memory to your system will add a little speed and update your chipset driver

Sisoft Sandra seems to think the processor and memory are fine, but the hard drive is not very good at all on the tests, I think its time has passed, as I am about to chuck it out the window...

The major bottleneck is your HARD DRIVE. Invest in a new new faster HD, and you will see worlds of difference.
