PS3 is "way, way more powerful than Xbox 2"

PlayStation 3 > Xbox 2
Every time I've chatted about next-gen consoles with the development community, nobody has really been able to tell me which machine has the most horsepower... until now. One high-profile developer who has seen both PS3 and Xbox 2 technology recently whispered into my innocent ear, "The next PlayStation is way, way more powerful than Xbox 2. It's insanely powerful. But don't cry, all you Xbots out there--my source promises that we'll still be quite impressed with the capabilities of Microsoft's Xbox successor.

Make of it what you will.

Well, I have seen this type of review before. Like when the xbox first came out, Playstation fan boys swore that the Playstation 2 was 2x faster than the Xbox. HAHA, what morons. Lets say that he did see both systems, I dought either system have full retail versions of games right now but just in beta stage. Unless you are a part of that systems devoloping team, I know for a fact that he didnt see both systems in action. Perhaps he saw PS3 and guessed that it was faster. Microsoft is the richest company, and I dought that their going to let Sony out due them. Nice try though PS fan boy.

Read up more!
Theres less wool pulled over our eyes in terms of undertanding specs these days.
XBox 2 will be much better than XBox. PS3 is another league.

If Microsoft had any brains, then they would pull out all stops and give this Xbox2 everything they can if they don't want to be second place to PS3. It would be worth the "gamble" to make this Xbox2 as impressive as possible and then some.

I remember a time when the Nintendo was king. Even a time when Snes and Genesis had better games then PC.

Anymore, even if a console comes out that is slightly more powerful then a PC, it won't be for long because the console is non upgradable.. Then being stuck with that old box for 5 years till an upgraded version of said console is released..

My suggestions for consoles:

64 bit cpu. Maybe two or more of them?

1 gig or more of ram.

Hard drive.

3 or 4 or 5 Nvidia or ATI chips in it.... 6 or 7 or 8? Don't stop there.. Make this box impress the world.

I wish I could make movies. I'd like to make a funny parody/comedy of a computer being in the place of something that was powered by coal, and instead of a person shoveling more coal into the box, he'd be shoveling in Nvidia or ATI GPU's by the shovel full. Have someone using the computer harp at him "More power! More power!" and the person shoveling as fast as he could. Could be pretty funny? LOL

xbox and microsoft are crap

playstation is and always will be better than microlame and nintencrap because they have got ten times the number really good titles, furthermore it would be freakin impossible to put 64 bit processors, a gig of ram, or 6,7,8 gpu's in a console cause they would cost a grand, 350 bucks for the thing is bad enough and it only has to perform a single task unlike a computer which is a multi tasking machine. please research before saying such stupid crap.

intel,xbox,nvidia,and msi suck, alot

A covert battle is raging between Microsoft and Sony. Both companies will loose money for at least one year after the release. The question in my mind is which company will go the extreme. My money is on Microsoft.. When they do something they succeed, regardless if they are evil. That’s why my money is also on them buying out Sony in 2012. ROFL ok im done...

Toky PEEs on the PS3 ------- :finger:

Consoles suck! Its like omg a STat system on games for Xbox and PS2...Well DUH your connected to the dam internet!

GO Phantom Console, Give em hell HardOCP!

Before posting your stupid crap, look at the price of the xbox now. Theres not a lot of money being made on the xbox! This could be achieved again, but they arent going to match the power of the PS3 in the timescale they have.
I'm sure you are the grand jury on which games are better too. I hold very different opinions to you.
The XBox is essentially a PC numbnuts and can multitask, hence the abilty to process graphics, sound, memory and other tasks concurrently.

Yours is the kind of lame arse response we have got used to.
Think before posting next time or I'll wise you up!

If they really wanted these consoles to be impressive; have them be able to do 64 bit color. Cause if they just do some more "32 bit" (24 bit), seen that already!

Really though, how impressive can these next gen machines be if they are just more of the same?

Why change something thats not broken?
I havent seen any problems with the number of colours rendered.
Doubling the memory bandwidth requirements for no benefit wont help.

What improvements do you expect to see by going to 64 bit colour?

Can I ask how close to real life games look these days?
There are lots of improvements to be had in rendering techniques AI and gameplay. Do you really want no improvements in these areas?
I'll be playing on an XBox2 and PS3 simply because they'll both be a hell of a lot of fun.

If you've noticed the lighting in any 3D OpenGL or D3D game, it's very limited. How will graphics ever improve beyond Doom3 and HL2 when we are stuck at 24 bits of color?

Real time ray tracing maybe?

64bits colour?
When you don't have clue what you're talking about, better keep quite.
I won't go into the technical implications of this, but point out a simple fact:
the most optimistic estimations state that the human eye can distinguish about 10 milion color shades. 24bits of colour means roughly 16mil colors. What in the world do you think that 64bits colour would be usefull for?

That's true if we were looking at a nice 2d jpg on the screen.

Here is an example of non rendered 24 bit color:

Here is an example of rendered 24 bit color:

8 shades each of red, green, and blue = 24 bit color does it not?

How can we have realistically rendered graphics when under a 24 bit limitation?

Show me the best, most impressive graphics you've ever seen in your life.

You are making statements beyond your knowledge.
What do photographs look like on your PC?
With only 16 million colours boy they must look awful

What makes you think the lighting effects are limited by the number of colours available?
Can you honestly see the difference between the colours 14,434,333 and colour 14,434,334? Any colour gradient problems you can see in a game arent due to the lack of available colours, more down to programming shortcuts to gain speed or poor coding.

Any lighting effects that are not true to life is because the hardware/software isnt fast enough to do it in real time while running the game core, sound, AI and the multitude of graphics and other processes required.

How will games improve beyond HL2 and Doom3? Take a look out of the window. Doesnt that look slightly better graphics than HL2 or Doom3?
I imagine you will ask the same question after the next new games.
If you really want to know, a good ingenius way of finding out is to learn something about it.

Where is the 24bit limitation?
You posted a picture demonstrating how good 24bit colour is and then went on to say that 24bit colour only has 24 colours.
Please do some studying.
