Has anyone heard of this problem? And if so, how did you resolve it?

A customer of mine has 2 lexmark printers - one on 2 different floors of their facility.

With no regular frequency, documents that are printed to printer A will go to printer B.

Printer A's IP address is 10.125.35.5 .
Printer B's IP address is 10.125.34.5 .

It's as if either the spooler has gone nuts, or maybe a bad switch or router on the network?

Server is running Windows 2003 Standard SP1. The printers are setup locally, and are direct IP prints.

Any ideas?

hmmmmm why do both printers have the same IP address?
The problem might be fixed in a sec with a different Ip for printer B/A
you may check the printer manual how to change its IP address

Ahh - but they are NOT the same - one is xxx.xxx.34.xxx, the other is xxx.xxx.35.xxx .

did the problem existed from the beginning or did it occur after some time working as it should
and if so ... did something change?

According to them, it was happening pretty regularly for period of 2 weeks about 2 months ago. Now it only happens intermittantly.

Nothing has changed. The IP addresses have been assigned for well over a year now. Nothing on their network infrastructure has been changed.

but since no one here can imagine how the hard and software is set up ...
but I would start with the spool mager first since a defect router seems pretty unlikely to me

maybe the hard / software just needs a restart ...

I was thinking the same thing - and if that doesn't remedy, I am going to reinstall service pack 1 and then all windows updates after that..
