Outlook 2002 out of memory error

Hi. I hope somebody here can help me out.

I run microsoft outlook 2002 in the office. I get about 300 mail a day.
When I'm out of the office for a week or more, the mail builds up to 2000 or more.
The problem is that when there is that much mail on the pop3 server, outlook 2002 gives an error during download saying that it is out of memory.

The computer I have is a pentium 4 1.8A with 512MB memory.

I would ideally like to continue using outlook, since I have a need to automatically save attachments with a certain email subject header to a specific directory, and a program called "casaveatt" does exactly this for me. This program only runs in outlook.

This is not an isolated problem to just my computer. All the other computers in the office have the same problem when dealing with large number of mail in outlook.

I feel that if there is a way to download a fixed number of mail (say 300) at a time, this problem can be solved, but I don't know how to go about this.

Or alternatively, does anyone know of an email client that allows me to set rules so that email attachments are automatically saved to a folder when it has a specific subject header?

I appreciate any help.
Thanks

Eudora Pro

Use Eudora Pro. Best email client out there, even better than Outlook.

Outlook 2000 / XP can sort into different folders depending on Subject / Contents / Sender ect.

Just goto Tools > Rules Wizard.

Sorting a bunch out into a different inbox folder might save you from the out of memory errors.

Also you can try going to the Send / Recieve button in Mail settings, and edit the rule to only download the item description. (Not certain but it might save you from memory problems too.)

*edit*
A quick look through support.microsoft.com shows a few fixes for similar problems:

Thanks for the replies.

I've tried it, but could not figure out how to automatically save attachments with a specific subject header. This function is really important for me, especially when getting so much mail.

>Sorting a bunch out into a different inbox folder might save you from the >out of memory errors.

The problem is that the error occurs during download, and rules only apply AFTER the mail has been downloaded onto the computer.

Lets say I have 3000 mail to download. After outlook downloads 1000 mail, the error shows up. What happens after closing the error windows is erratic. Sometimes, the download stops and I could click send/recieve again to continue. Sometimes, it just crashes. Sometimes, it downloads the same 1000 messages it had already downloaded.

I read the knowledge base, but it offers no real solution (just states that there is a problem).

Outlook Out of Memory Errors

Question: Do you use a Auto-Signature?

If so just search your computer for all NORMAL.DOT files and you must also change your Search (View) Start/Search/For Files and Folders/Tools/Folder Options/View/Hidden Files and Folders/move radio button down/and uncheck top two boxes in this area. Once you find these files you can delete all of them and just re-open Outlook. Make sure Outlook and Word are closed at this time. Another thing to check is if you have Word as your email editor if NOT, check this box also. In Outlook go to Tools/options/Mail Format Tab and check the top two boxes to use Word as your email editor.

Big Grin Good Luck... Let me know how these work.
