Opera: Now completely free of charge

Opera Software today permanently removed the ad banner and licensing fee from its award-winning Web browser. The ad-free, full-featured Opera browser is now available for download - completely free of charge ; at [http://www.opera.com]

Download Opera 8.50 (wich includes several security fixes)

Opera new version name will be Merlin
Merlin is the name of a small falcon, an Ancient, and as Olli mentioned, the code name of our next major release. Since we released Opera 8.5 today without banner ads, we thought we'd tell everyone some of the things they have to look forward to in the future from Opera. We've been working hard on the next major release for quite some time and we're getting ever closer to releasing a preview.

hehe no ... you did not understand the general problem ...
which mainly MS has to deal with

the more ppl. do use some software the more insecure and vulnerable it is ...
IE is not that insecure ... or better not much more insecure as other browsers - but its used by most ppl.
therefor any hack cracker script kiddie or how else you want to call em tries to find flaws in IE ...
now that FF get more and more popular more and more ppl. try to find security holes here and they will find them ...
and if FF is dead and opera is on the top they will find open doors (more then enough) there, too

that one of the very big falsities of mainly the linux community ... a software is secure as long as very few ppl. use it ... as soon as more ppl. use it
the software does not stand a chance against counter productive ppl.

thats why I am against all those bad opinions about MS ... MS does an awesome job ...

when there is one day when Linux / freeware / shareware / open source is more popular then MS products we will talk again and you will very soon realise what I ment

yep....that´s the point Mertsch....

but i´m not firering against a company...
it´s simply the browser...the feeling, the speed, the comfort etc...

and like i said, i tested Opera some days, also....
i´ve been impresed at the first....
but working longer and longer with Opera...the more negatives i could see for me.....
that´s why FF is the best browser for me....and more and more other ppl

and...

[OT]
I LOVE MICROSOFT because of their work...
what would we use now without them?
Linux? Mac?.....this is not for mainstream...MS is it...etc

and btw yes I did try Opera once
I loved mouse gestures and the DL manager was quite nice but no browser hat better favorites then IE at that time till FF apeared which has even better favorites then IE and since I don't need any DL manager for normal use and do have a good external one for massiv DLing
and I do use strokeit for system wide mouse gestures not only browser I don't need opera
I also had some difficulties with web pages that I did not have with IE
and I can't live without some FF plugins anymore ... e.g. noscript
