NOOB?

Where does this driver fit in the grand scheme of nVidia?
I am using the 40.71 beta drivers, but need to know if this is the latest release in case I have problems.

So far with all the drivers I have tested (20.xx and up) the gForce4 4400Ti cannot keep up with my old VooDoo5 in D2 or SC. The gForce4 is MUCH better in Q3 type games, but so bad at D2 and SC I am thinking of returning it.
Is this a driver issue, or does the gForce have less power for 2 dimensional games then my old VooDoo? I will try this driver as well to see.

Personally, I've spent WAY too much time d/l nVidia Dets lately. I'm sticking with the 40.52's... I don't play Quake or UT2003, and they're faster than the 40.71's.

This is an "official WHQL" driver release (based on the old DetonatorXP series driver).

Detonator40 series drivers provide new features and enhancements, but it is still in beta stage.

Some system maybe more stable using the 30.xx series; whereas Detonator40 gives you the best features available to NVidia video cards.

d2 was optimized for glide, a voodoo-only feature thats why even a v2 will beat a gf4 in this game.
i dont know if NV is not able or not allowed to use this features of the voodoo cards. NV cards perform well in opengl and d3d but is not capable of glide

How exactly can starcraft be slow on a gf4???

The game runs in 640x480 256 colours and is more limited by your cpu rather than your graphics card id have though -a rage 2 can play it fine Wink

benn checking nvidia website and no new 30.87 drivers up yet for winxp and win98/winme on normal links yet Sad

Are these drivers ok that are linked to the 3d control section or are they modified drivers to work with 3d control panel ?

Any ideas when they will be on normal links 30.87 drivers anyone ?

nVidia purchased 3dfx if I'm not mistaken. There's really nothing stopping them from implementing Glide other than the desire to kill it off since it is an aging and inferior API. They'd much rather see support for OpenGL or DirectX.
