why should I care, the NV30 is gonna be like the geforce I was, a very short lived First Gen Product, it will not be worth buying and the 40x series drivers suck. the NV31 then 35 will be out shortly after, and if ITS anything like the Nv17 was to the 15 hmmmmm. You relize the NV 15 had a life of a little over 6months, till it was COMPLETLY outclassed buy ever Other dx7 accelerater. hell the 17 was 2x faster, nvidia ALWAYS over hypes a First Gen accel. was even like that with the TNT1 -2 atleast the TNT1 did last longer. The only thing is Your a Fool if you waste your money on First Gen nvidia Products when there over priced. The Nv30 is a First Gen Dx 9 part, from nvidia.

Hey Zoron
NV10 is GeForce256
NV15 is GeForce2
NV17 is GeForce4 MX

Didn't you mean "if it's anything like the NV15 was to NV10"?

History doesn´t necessarily repeat itself. Take the case of Geforce 3 (the original) In a couple of months it will be 2 years since it got out and it can still be considered a good/average board, better than any gf4mx. Gf3 was the first DX8 card and those who bought it and stik to it definitily spent less money than those who buy cards every 6 months on good deals. The vpu on nv30 will not change that much for at least 1 year , probably 1,5 years of lige with some tweaks. What will probably change is the memory interface and bandwith and there´s where our concerns on buying or not an nv30 should be centered. It would only be a bad deal if a version with 256bits came out 3/4 months after its launch...

I've had a Geforce 3 since it came out. Playing everything at 1024x768x32 with 8x AF and Quincunx FSAA. I am a very happy customer. :-)

Its also interesting to note that going from the original driver that came with the card, (Detonator 23.11) to the latest official detonator (40.72) these are the performance improvements in Driver Maturation alone:

Anisitropic Filtering = 50% increase
FSAA = 30% increase
Performance increase with Default settings = 25%

I rounded out the percentages, but this is overall accurate using various game/synthetic benchmarks.

Generally speaking, ATi Driver maturation involves making games playable, as opposed to running faster.
